Busy Day

The planets aligned, and somehow SketchCrawl and Gallery Girls ended up being on the same day. I wish they would have been spread out a bit, but that's the way it goes. Spent all afternoon drawing in North Beach in the city, came home for a couple of hours to eat, then back to the city for Gallery Girls. They had an Edward Gorey theme this time. Had a good time as usual, but I overheard they're not doing another one until March, which is a bummer. Hopefully I heard wrong. I wish they did them more often.

New Stuff

Hot in the shade

Spent some time in Pleasanton today. Pleasanton is a strange place, it's got the whole "Small Town USA" thing going on there, except with fancy boutique stores. It was hot as hell there today, but we did manage to find a park with some nice shade to do a little drawing.

SketchCrawl in the Presidio

I decided to get out the watercolors for Saturday's SketchCrawl. It was a nice change of pace. I was mostly trying to get the colors correct, and get back some of my traditional color mixing skills. Digital painting has ruined me! I really enjoyed it though and think I'm going to start doing it more; maybe with some ink line work.

This was the first time I'd been to the Presidio. It was really nice. Great views of the Golden Gate Bridge and the Bay. The Palace of Fine Arts Theater was very cool and a little overwhelming. It managed to make it into each piece. Apparently a lot of people get their wedding pictures taken there. I saw at least three couples getting their pictures taken. I also managed to get a wicked sunburn. I forgot how much a sunburn hurts. Lousy sun.

Yar, sometimes I wonder why I bother plunderin' at all.

Here' some new stuff from the latest Gallery Girls event and a piece I made for an internal art contest at Autodesk.

Autodesk recently held an employee art contest. The only rules were that you have to use our Sketchbook Pro software. I figured it wouldn't look to good if I didn't at least enter something. They are having prizes though, one of which is the sexy new Wacom tablet.

In the time I spent making this, I realized I don't really care for Sketchbook Pro too much. I just kept wishing it was Photoshop the whole time; no color editing or layer blending modes. Lame!



The Gallery Girls event was a pirate theme this time, much better than the hippies. Too bad they don't have these more often.
