Feeler

I just finished reading part two of The Strain trilogy. I happened to pick up the first one to read during a flight over the summer, and was surprised how good it was. Guillermo del Toro's name on the book was the main thing that made me pick it up. Anyway the book is about a vampiric viral outbreak that begins at a New York airport during an elipse. There's a group of blind vampire children called "Feelers" in the book that I'm kind of fascinated with. I was just messing around combining cute and gruesome in this quickie.

Gallery Girls - The Tarot

Here are some new ones from Gallery Girls over the weekend and one from Dr. Sketchy's. Gallery Girls was a nice and chill one this time with a bit of room to move around. They gave out DIY tarot cards at the door. Mine is now hanging on the fridge. I love the metal dude with sword, goat head chain, face paint, and NO PANTS :) It's so hard to look metal without pants.

Deep Sea Divin'

Here's a new one. I spent way longer than I intended on this one. It started out as a quickie paint over of a sketch, but then I started to correct drawing issues, and render out the materials.I like the way it came out, but I seem to have so much trouble just keeping things simple. It's just too easy to get carried away in Photoshop.

New Stuff

Here's a few new ones. A little drawing in the city, Berkeley, and the last Dr. Sketchy's. This was the first I'd been to Sketchy's at 111 Minna in quite a while. The side room was open this time with the model on stage, which was nice. They should have had it set up that way the entire time! I think I'm going to start going to these regularly again. Those five minute poses go quick! I've been super lazy about keeping my blog updated this summer. Hopefully I'll get a groove back here.

A Midsummer Night's Dream

The Gallery Girls were in town on Saturday. I couldn't believe how many people were jammed into the rooms; at least I had a chair. I managed to get some good drawings while holding off a claustrophobic panic attack. I also did a some drawing in North Beach on Sunday. Getting better at drawing buildings. It seems like it's all about taking your time.

Under the sea

Working on some sketches for a new illustration yesterday. I decided to try messing around with some color over one of the thumbnails. It came out surprisingly well for just messing around. Now to do some sketches for the deep sea diver.

Damn it, they moved!

The phrase of the day. People just don't seem to understand they need to sit still so I can draw them :) Spent the afternoon doing some drawing with my friend at Union Square in the city. It was windy as hell, but at least the sun was out. Great spot to draw people; if only they would sit still.

Fort Mason

A couple new ones. Did a bit of drawing at Fort Mason yesterday. I'd never been there before. Lots of great views of the bay and the Golden Gate. I ended up getting a sunburn as usual :)

Metamorphica - Bad Unkl Sista

Went to the Metamorphica drawing event last night for the first time. Very cool. Lot's of awesome costumes. I'd never really seen Butoh dance before. It makes for very cool imagery, especially in person. It's pretty surreal. They have these every couple months or so. I'll definitely be going to more of these.

Gold Rush

The Gallery Girls finally made it back to The Bay. Had a good time as usual, but was feeling a bit rusty since I haven't been doing a lot of life drawing lately. Hopefully now that the weather is getting better I'll be doing a lot more.

Fly away

Just messing around trying some newer brushes I've made. Got an idea for an illustration that has some birds in it. We'll see how it pans out.

Year of the Tiger

I've been super lazy with posting this winter. Hopefully I can get the ball rolling again, and get my ass in gear. A couple sketches of tigers from ref.

Jessica Alba?

Just messing around with some new brushes in Photoshop (as well as my old fave the flat directional brush). Used some Jessica Alba ref for this one; trying to stylize a bit. Unfortunately it doesn't really look like her though. Meh.

Vespa

Just messing around in Photoshop. I really like drawing scooters for some reason.
